'Detached' house27. Sep2011
This is a renovation project of a small dwelling built from the 1950s in Jurmala, Latvia.
Besides renovation, a glazed corner like a detached house was added to the house wrapped in dark grey vertically wood panels. The detached volume projected on to the exterior serves as a living space and acts as a pavilion surrounded by lush vegetation of the garden.
The windows and doors are in the same place as in the old building but because of the wall insulation added to the house they look like they are punching the surface of the facade. All images courtesy ARHIS architects.
