Daddy Longlegs barstool17. Aug2011
Daddy Longlegs was created by Martin Solem with the idea that a chair should be affordable for anyone in these times.
"With this barstool I’ve tried to think of the time that we live in... I believe that today people want good design with high quality for a reasonable price. I wanted to make a barstool for everyone. To do this I had my focus on a simple and elegant shape which is to be made in different materials and colours. By having different seat and footrest options it will be possible for the costumers to find the barstool that can satisfy their individual wishes." - Martin Solem
Daddy Longlegs prototype stool will be presented at the London Design Festival in September 2011 for the 100% Norwegian exhibition along with other young Norwegian designers who have been selected to show their prototypes: Caroline Olsson, Gridy, Ida Noemi Vidal, Magnus Pettersen, Martin Solem, Petter Skogstad (in collaboration with Anderssen & Voll and Hallgeir Homstvedt) and Vibeke Skar.

"As a designer I always try to be innovative, but I might be a bit old fashioned in my thoughts of design,” says Martin Solem who’s currently studying in Copenhagen, Denmark. For me, a product has to be realistic and useful to be called good design. What I try to do is to combine these basic thoughts with new innovative ideas." - Martin SolemWhilst studying furniture making, Martin got a serious back injury which forced him to stop his studies. Determined to pursue a career in design, he was accepted at the Bergen National Academy of Arts before continuing his design Bachelor at The Danish Design School in Copenhagen.
