'Framed' is a cupboard created by Berg Hanssen for Vij5, a young Dutch design label with a collection of interior products. The cabinet features an interesting use of a 'new' material created from newspaper, called 'newspaperwood'.

As described in NewspaperWood, a recent magazine printed for the Milan Design Week, "every day, piles of newspapers are discarded and recycled into new paper. Mieke Meijer has devised a solution to use this surplus of paper into a renewed material. When a NewspaperWood log is cut, the layers of paper appear like lines of a wood grain or the rings of a tree and therefore resembles the aesthetic of real wood. The material can be cut, milled and sanded and generally treated like any other type of wood."

Fascinated by the indeterminable but distinct color of the newspaperwood material, Berg decided to incorporate NewspaperWood into a piece of furniture combining it with contrasting colors to emphasize this quality. The result is a cupboard characterized by a finely detailed construction.
