NØRD chair20. Mar2012
"NØRD is danish for nerd, geek, crank - this describes the main character and design of this chair. made out of laminated wood assembled without any metal parts it follows the idea of concentrating on the detail and keeping the moulding process down to earth. an important technical and formal feature is that backrest and seat are only stacked together. every part statically interacts with the other to define a solid structure of laminated shells and parts made out of solid oak wood." - David Geckeler
So far, NØRD chair received 1st place at MUUTO Talent Award 2011 and 3rd place at BeckerContest International Design Award 2011.
"The chair achieves its strong emotional charisma by concentrating on the essentials. The designer has carried over the simple and proven construction principle of the traditional »pub« chair. The ergonomically shaped wooden bowl of the seat and back are interlocked and provide mutual reinforcement whilst being permanently glued to the substructure. An intelligent structural solution that could be cost-effectively produced using modern CNC technology."
