Soft Block outdoor-indoor furniture21. Jun2012
Innovative designer James de Wulf delighted ICFF attendees again in 2012 with several exciting new products, the most ambitious of which is a new collection of indoor-outdoor furniture called Softblock. Shaped to look like the concrete structures de Wulf is renowned for, the collection is covered in a variety of dynamic, exciting colors and patterns put together in collaboration with designer Goga Bouquet.
The Soft Block Collection consists of a sofa, easy chair, chaise lounge, and ottoman. ---
There are ten standard fabric colors with more to come.---
All pieces have easily removable covers that are quick drying, UV resistant, machine washable, and inter-changeable.---
Cushions are made with high quality non-absorbent high density foam for strength and light weight. ---
Softer memory foam is used in seating, and reclining areas, and for arm rests. Bottoms are made with mildew resistant awning grade material for maximum durability and lifespan.---
The Soft Block collection was inspired by de Wulf’s own block chair, which was fabricated out of concrete. The low silhouette and contemporary styling of the block chair drew much praise and interest. But the chair’s weight and mass was a challenge. Working with Bouquet on the material, de Wulf was able to duplicate the look and style of the block chair and create a collection of pieces that are lightweight and easy to move. “My goal with Softblock has been to make strong timeless shapes with lightweight practical materials”, says de Wulf. The result is a unique de Wulf design that is bold, contemporary, and timeless; with subtle angles, excellent proportions, kid friendly, and bachelor approved!
