Stitching concrete10. Aug2011
Stitching concrete is a project by using the new material Concrete Canvas.
Concrete Canvas manufacture a ground breaking material technology called Concrete Cloth that allows concrete to be used in a completely new way. Concrete Cloth was originally developed for the award winning Concrete Canvas Shelters, a building in a bag that requires only water and air for construction. All you need is just add water.

"It combines the softness of cloth with the stability of concrete. Once brought in the final shape, you just have to water the material and within 24h it will almost harden out completely. The challenge was to get into the material and bring it from its rawness to something new. Approaching through patterns, origami and stitchings a unique series of stools got born. Waterproof, fireproof, resistant against UV, durable. The fiber reinforcement makes it strong and the cloth gives back a warm atmosphere." - Florian Schmid
Here is the chair made of Concrete Canvas with edges stitched together with brightly colored thread, then supported on a wooden mould while it’s drenched into water and allowed to harden.
