The Tank House14. Jul2011
Initially being just a loft space reconsideration, the project extended and finally consisted in combining a rennovation of the existing loft apartment with the conversion of a sprinkler tank house to create an urban retreat in the noisy New York.
The aim of the big sprinkler tank located on the roof was to be a retreat, a place for relaxing. For this, the roof was refurbished and redesigned to include the tank in the new landscape. The original massive cast iron tank was removed and a replica made of wood replaced it.

The apartment spaces were reconsidered, the materials on the floor and walls changed where needed and the surface redesigned according to the new distribution of the spaces. The ugly painted steel stair with wood treads was replaced with a stylish stainless stair. The client credo was that a new stair will encourage him to go to his roof deck more often.
The bedrooms were isolated from the noisy exterior.
The bathroom received a continuous stone floor and waterproof polished plaster walls.
The kitchen was resurfaced and the maple wood floors were lightened and refinished.
